Writing a 2 Chord Song and Why are these song so Brilliant…

Writing a 2 Chord song or piece of music is the essence of saying more with less.  Let me take you to an example we all may relate to well enough to understand this concept.  The concept of “Speed vs. Power”.  Anyone that has driven a stick shift car knows that you will get the most hauling power in first gear.  However, the most speed will be achieved in your last gear such as 5^th.  Same thing happens in music!  You have the “speed” or rhythm and the “power” of the chord progression.  These concepts can be interchanged.  However, for purposes of achieving a great song with just 2 chords, we will keep these items in the said order.  Think of speed = rhythm and power = chord progression. 

The different nature of just 2 chords (harmony), and a compelling rhythm gives you the perfect combination of “power” and “speed”.  Use this to your advantage.  Find a good progression that works and find the right rhythm.  Can you imagine a complex rhythm and a complex progression all happening at the same time?  YES!  But, this will defeat the purpose of the brilliance of a 2 Chord Song…
