I will give 2 approaches of playing the minor pentatonic scale:
The first approach could be played anywhere on the guitar...the tab in F is below!
Any root note...followed by a note 2 frets away...followed by a note a fret away from the last one...followed by a note one fret away from the last one played...followed by a note 2 frets away, and finish with the octave.
The second approach is the more theoretical approach:
Any root note...followed by the b3, the P4, the P5, the m7, and the octave. This is a helpful approach if you need to write out the notes in standard notation.
Here is the tab for it in F:
------------------------------------------------1---4--
--------------------------------------1---4------------
-------------------------------1---3-------------------
---------------------1---3-----------------------------
------------1---3--------------------------------------
----1---4----------------------------------------------
Legend: here the numbers are the fingers (1 = index, 3 = ring, and 4 = pinky). The bottom line is the thickest string in the guitar (low E in standard tuning). The top is the thinest string (high E in standard tuning).
Additional: This is a movable form, so you can transfer this shape into any other position of the guitar.
