Talking in chord language...

Relate chord voicing with numbers. Roots and 5ths will go in stacked formats. 7ths and 3rds will follow. 
This will build an automatic 4 voicing. 

Therefore, when attempting a chord solo piece composition of your own, think in terms of the high notes in the voicing as your melody line.  

For example, use solo lines in the melody of the tune that speeds up and use chord melody arrangements for the slower phrases. This will add expertise to your playing. 

You can practice this technique using a harmonized scale form!
